Blowout preventer from „Karlino 1”. Used to close the borehole outlet in the event of crude oil or gas eruption. During a drilling job on the prospecting well of „Karlino 1”, as a result of unexpected drilling in a reservoir of abnormal reservoir pressure, an explosion and fire of crude oil occurred. The resulting massive heat prevented approaching the borehole to remove the damaged preventer. The preventer was destroyed by artillery missiles from a distance of approx. 80 m. A special head was mounted on the borehole and the fire was extinguished. The fire extinguishing operation lasted over 4 weeks.
